In 1984, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came to life in a self-published comic book created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. That comic book was the launching pad for what would become a pop-culture phenomenon and a licensing juggernaut, which spawned cartoon series, movies and an amazing array of licensed apparel and accessories.
